mBraining IS and ISN’T Science
15th March, 2016
I am excited to be running mBIT Coach Trainings and working with like-minded mBIT Trainers and mBIT Master Coaches to promote and develop this new field. Professional coaches are becoming more curious about what is a very different approach… where essentially… facilitating embodied generative wisdom is the primary goal.
The exciting thing is how accessible mBraining is and how it enables an awareness and appreciation of the here and now; acknowledges the impact of being fully tuned in to each moment and through mBIT addresses the “how to”.
Energy, flow, connection, balance and breath are fundamental in the world of mBraining. We tune into our bodies developing a new way of paying attention to subtleties in our physiology, seeking to discern and intuit how our nervous system is communicating with us.
The sciency bit… well a “lite” version
You will note that what you might habitually describe as your brain (the bundle of neurons and other cells situated in your head) is a part of a much wider set of connected and interconnected pathways.
In fact clusters of neurons can be found throughout the body. Neurons are cells with the ability to learn, they have memory and can selectively perceive and process information, importantly informing us how to respond… If we are listening!
Two particular areas of interest are the heart and the gut.
Think about somebody you really love. Place your hand on your heart and breath into that area imagining you are with that person right now. Really connect with what it is you truly appreciate within them… You can feel this throughout your body but particularly in your chest… right?
But why should this be, surely thought is a head based thing?
Of course anybody who has ever felt true passion for a person, an idea, the planet, anything at all… will know it isn’t … thought and feeling are intertwined and yet how much attention do we pay to the signals our heart gives us? We really are wired for awareness but do we check in enough?
Think about the times you have felt uneasy or on the flipside felt absolutely certain about a decision that was really personally important to you. Those times that instinct has been shouting at you that something isn’t quite right or conversely when something is obviously right (a “no brainer”)… It is in the gut… right? There may be some sensation in your heart too – but the chances are those core instinctive “knowings” originate from a place other than your head.
Consider the times you have been absolutely alert, aware and super present… you might describe your “way of being” at these times as… buzzing, tingling, wired, alive… unsurprisingly your autonomic nervous system will have been fully awake and engaged ready to receive and respond to the situation you found yourself within.
Many of us have become disconnected from our bodies, overly reliant on head based knowing and swamping wider wisdom. Breath is an easy way to access greater embodiment and in mBraining we use mBIT techniques to work with breath to create greater connection and alignment freeing up channels of communication, familiarizing ourselves with the signals our bodies are offering to enable us to have deeper awareness and connection with ourselves, with others and with the environment.
Through embodying intentions of Compassion, Creativity and Courage our actions can be the highest expressions of these. mBraining is about finding a fluidity and ease within you and it is about how you relate with others, moment to moment for a wiser world.
The neuroscience is useful for those not yet acquainted with their deeper wisdom… But it isn’t the totality of mBIT. It is offered in order to allow our heads to catch up with why this methodology works, when in fact at a heart and gut level we already know we have more insight that simply our heads can offer – it is obvious.
mBraining has origins in ancient practices – the neuroscience is simply evidence that science is catching up with esoteric wisdom. We will have all experienced…
- Conflict between thoughts, feelings and actions
- Times of unexplainable personal inaction towards dreams, goals or agreed plans
- Trouble making decisions or stopping unwanted habits without knowing why
- Feeling like something is missing, a disconnection from our deepest inner self
Intuition is innate… BUT… because of something called neurogenesis we can in fact (and excitingly) develop our ability to access the intuitive information our nervous systems provide.
mBIT is a collection of approaches for eliciting generative wisdom – as mBIT Coaches we are aiming to bring the human spirit alive… this involves deep exploration for meaningful action. Insight is emergent and a practice for living wisely moment to moment!
